Now in its twenty-sixth year, the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference (ILMUNC)
continues to host one of the largest and most distinguished Model United Nations
simulations in the world. This year, ILMUNC will invite over 2,000 delegates to
Philadelphia’s Sheraton Philadelphia Center City (the same venue as years past)
to discuss a diverse and exciting array of world issues. Delegates will gain a tremendous
education both in international affairs, public speaking and teamwork, as well as
have the chance to unwind and have fun in Philadelphia at our numerous social events.
The hallmark of ILMUNC is its committees, and this year’s offerings are no exception.
We will be offering the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission as a General Assembly
all-novice Committee. ILMUNC XXVI will also feature a joint crisis simulation, as
well as simulations of the African Union, the International Labour Organization,
the World Trade Organization, and a host of other committees and agencies. We invite
you to our Committees page to learn about all of the committees being offered, as
well as to explore the rest of our web site to discover ILMUNC.
Other Hallmark Features of the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference
Dedicated Staff
ILMUNC boasts a knowledgeable and devoted team of over 200 Penn undergraduates.
Our staff’s diversity is one of ILMUNC’s greatest assets; hailing from over twenty-five
countries and countless courses of study, each member brings his or her own unique
skill set and perspective on international affairs to the conference. When not running
ILMUNC, our staff comprises one of the most successful inter-collegiate Model United
Nations teams in the country, allowing us to bring an enormous amount of experience
and professionalism to the conference.
Dynamic Delegate Experience
While ILMUNC fosters a high level of debate during committee sessions, we believe
delegates should have a meaningful experience outside of committee as well. We strive
to create a balance between academics and fun through our varying programs during
the weekend. The Keynote Speaker starts off conference with an exclusive view into
current international affairs. This stress on education is continued throughout
the weekend as delegates will be able to interact with Penn professors through our
Distinguished Scholars program. After the day’s sessions conclude, students are
free to have fun at the Delegate Dance, featuring a live DJ, and themed Delegate
Fest, with food, soda and performances by Penn performing arts groups.
Commitment to Charity
The Franklin Legacy program provides an amazing opportunity for our staff and delegates
to get involved in some of the most pressing humanitarian issues of today. ILMUNC
has always been committed to improving the broader world around us through this
program, which has traditionally sought to raise money for certain charities. This
year, ILMUNC XXVI will focus on the problem of water accessibility, an issue that
has long been in the spotlight as nearly one billion people on the planet lack access
to safe water.
One of ILMUNC’s greatest features is that it takes place in Philadelphia, a city
seeped in history and culture. The conference is located steps away from the historic
Benjamin Franklin Parkway, which is home to the Franklin Institute, City Hall, and
the renowned Philadelphia Museum of Art. A thriving art and restaurant scene and
celebrated landmarks from the Revolutionary period make Philadelphia one of the
most cosmopolitan and historic cities in the world.
