Welcome to Ad Hoc Committee to the Secretary-General

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to the 26th session of ILMUNC and the Ad hoc Committee of the Secretary-General!  My name is Roashan Ayene, and I will be your chair for what should prove to be an exciting weekend, both in and out of committee.  The crisis staff has worked hard to make the experience challenging and realistic.  As with all crisis committees, you will be faced with a fast paced, fluid situation, and you will need to find answers to some of the world’s most pressing issues.  I ask that you prepare diligently to take advantage of what we have in store for you.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the email listed below.

I am currently a sophomore coming from a suburb outside of Philadelphia. I intend to obtain a dual degree between The College of Arts and Sciences and The School of Engineering and eventually attend medical school.  Although my high school did not have Model UN, I have come to love it.  I am Under-Secretary-General of Crisis Committees for our college conference and Deputy Director of Intercol, our intercollegiate travelling team.  Outside of Model United Nations, I am a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, work in a laboratory, enjoy running, and love spending time with my friends.

I can’t wait to meet all of you in January.  I encourage you to take advantage of the city, as Philadelphia has much to offer.  Once again, welcome to the Ad hoc Committee and best of luck in preparing for the conference!

Yours,

Roashan Ayene

Esteemed Delegates,

Welcome to the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference XXVI! It is my pleasure to serve as the crisis director to the ad Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General. Our staff has worked very hard to present you the best and most innovative crises year to year, and I hope that you will have as much fun in committee as we do in preparing it! This year’s ad Hoc committee will have many twists and turns as we aim to keep the crisis constantly moving. I have always been involved in Crisis Committees because they are the most exciting and fun. This committee will be no exception. As the ad Hoc committee is geared toward some of the most experienced delegates, you have definitely shown experience through the application process. I can’t say too much about the committee at the moment due to its nature, but we have been working tirelessly to provide you with the craziest experience during ILMUNC, so all I can say for now is to come prepared for some insanity!

I’d like to take this time to more formally introduce myself. My name is JoAnna Tonini, and I am currently a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences double majoring in International Relations and Economics. I am originally from Las Vegas, but have grown to love the East Coast as well, especially Philadelphia. I had the honor of being on the UPMUNC Secretariat (our college conference) for the past three years and was fortunate enough to serve as the Chief of Staff for UPMUNC 2008. You also won’t find a more charming, funny, and witty committee Chair than our Roashan Ayene, who is an expert at Crisis Committees and a former UPMUNC USG Crisis!

I can’t wait to see you all in January. In the meantime, relax and see you in Philly.

Best of luck,

JoAnna Tonini
Crisis Director, Ad Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General
