Dear Delegates,
It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the Commission on Sustainable Development at the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference! As your chair, I am extremely excited to participate with you in what I expect to be a highly thought-provoking, complex, and challenging four-day debate on topics which could not be more relevant to the current state of our global economy.
Originally from New Jersey, I am a junior at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. As a business student, I am working towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics, with concentrations in business and public policy and marketing, as well as a minor in French. At Penn I am involved in organizations around campus such as the International Affairs Association, Sigma Delta Tau, Wharton Women, and the University Honor Council.
As you begin to prepare for committee, I encourage you to rely on the background guide as a basis for understanding the topics and guiding further research. Beyond mastering the background guide, it is also important that you understand your nation’s stance on the topics and come prepared to committee with possible solutions that would be acceptable for the rest of the body. This committee is meant to be a forum to discuss, dispute, and decide on a potential course of action that will best serve the world economy in an age of ongoing development. I am confident that with lively debate, you and your fellow delegates will develop innovative solutions to the two topics at hand.
I very much look forward to meeting you in January and I wish you the best of luck!
Warmest Regards,
Elyse Sholk
Chair, Commission on Sustainable Development
