Dear Delegates,
My name is João Victor Mokdissi and it is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the twenty-seventh session of the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference. I am extremely honored to serve as your Under Secretary-General for the General Assembly. At ILMUNC, General Assembly committees provide you with the opportunity to ‘peacefully’ debate a range of global issues in the presence of all countries represented in the United Nations. The wide range of issues and the diversity of perspectives in GA committees make negotiating ever more challenging and the experience ever more rewarding. Whether you are in the Disarmament and International Security Committee, the Legal Committee, the Special Political and Decolonization Committee, the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee, the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission or the Historical GA, being a delegate of a GA committee allows you to become aware of most conflicts and incidents that occur around the world, to find solutions to global problems, and to enhance your communication skills.
Originally from Brasilia, Brazil, I am currently a sophomore studying Finance at the Wharton School. Aside from business, I am very interested in political science and international relations, two passions that I explore by participating in Model United Nations. My love for Model UN began in my sophomore year of high school and has grown ever since. I have attended various conferences around the world, including ILMUNC, the Iberian Model UN Conference in Lisbon, and the Brazil Model United Nations Conference in Rio de Janeiro, where I had the experience of being a delegate, then chair, and eventually Secretary-General. At Penn, I am also a member of the Wharton Council, the Penn Brazil Club and am a Management 100 Team Advisor. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, traveling and playing board games!
Throughout my Model UN career, I have always chosen to participate in General Assembly committees, which is why I am ecstatic to be Under Secretary-General for GA at ILMUNC XXVII. This year, the General Assembly committees are going to be better than ever. Your passionate chairs, carefully selected topics for debate, and detailed background guides will make this the best conference you will ever attend. Please feel free to contact me to introduce yourself or if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting all of you in January!
Sincerely,
João Victor Mokdissi

Dear Delegates,
Welcome to the twenty-seventh session of the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference! With all of you here, and the preparations in order, this is going to be one of the most engaging and fun ILMUNC Penn has seen! Model UN has been a part of who I am since freshman year of high school, making this my sixth consecutive ILMUNC. I’m so excited to be one of your Undersecretaries-General for the General Assembly committees this year, and I’m here to make this a rewarding and memorable experience for everyone.
I hope that as delegates you get to know me this weekend. Born in New York, I went to a French School, spoke Bulgarian to my parents, and studied Spanish and Russian for years. I’m currently a sophomore in the Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business. Outside of school, I’m a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority to help out with charity events. I also love to swim and bake cookies.
After working closely with the General Assembly chairs and moderators, I’m confident that this year’s committees are tailored to be the best. In particular, I’m overseeing SOCHUM, SPECPOL, and UNPBC, this year’s Novice Committee. We chose topics based on creativity, structurally streamlined background guides, and invited schools from all over the globe. Most importantly, every single Staff, Dais, and Secretariat member is devoted to your experience and to helping the conference run smoothly.
I know how nerve-wracking it can be to walk into the first committee session, to make your first speech, or to send your first rose gram. It’s all worth it by the end of the weekend; ILMUNC memories keep you coming back. Even though we’ve worked so hard to make ILMUNC XXVII unsurpassable, we’d love to hear your ideas! Please don’t hesitate to come up to me during conference or to email me beforehand! I can’t wait to meet you in committee, and good luck researching and preparing until then. Remember, your enthusiasm and dedication make the conference. See you soon!
Much love,
Alice Kissilenko
