Dear Delegates,

My name is David Schwartz, and I am looking forward to being your Chair for Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations: Mossad! On behalf of our entire committee staff, I would like to welcome you to this committee and to ILMUNC XXVIII. Josh and I have designed this committee to be challenging, intense, and fun.

Though Mossad will undoubtedly test your abilities as a delegate and your knowledge of Israel and global politics, we are certain that this committee will be a remarkable experience for both delegates and staff.

A little bit about myself: I am a junior at Penn studying economics and political science, originally from the northern suburbs of New York City. Outside of school, I act as Chief of Staff for our intercollegiate MUN team, play the cello, and am an avid golfer. In addition, I have a twin sister, Cara, who is studying at Cornell.

Our Mossad committee will be set in the not-so-distant future. Like the diverse issues that Mossad has faced through its history, the year 2018 will be one of immense challenges for Mossad and for the state of Israel as a whole. In order to succeed, delegates will need to balance creativity, knowledge, and hard work to address the many crises that will arise.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or want to say hello. I hope that you are all looking forward to ILMUNC!

Best Regards,

David Schwartz

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to ILMUNC 2012! My name is Josh Elkind and I will be your Crisis Director. In order for Israel to survive in modern times, it is essential that her national intelligence agency be strong and ready to respond to any imminent threats. Whether it is through public or covert actions, it will be up to you to make sure that the state of Israel remains safe during troubled times.

Here's a little bit about myself: I am a junior studying Mechanical Engineering and Finance. I'm from just outside New York City, making me a huge Yankees and Jets fan. Other than MUN, I tutor in West Philadelphia public schools and am a member of a fraternity. I like to spend my spare time with my friends, either just watching movies or going into Philly taking advantage of all the great restaurants and things to do.

I hope you are as excited as I am to dig deep into the issues concerning Israeli national security. I can't wait to meet everyone at UPMUNC and please feel free to contact our USG - João Pedro - before conference with any questions you may have.

All the best,

Josh Elkind

Topic Summary

Israel’s Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations is responsible for collecting intelligence, setting up covert operations, and generally protecting the international Jewish community. The agency has been suspected of actively involving itself in targeted killings, parliamentary intervention outside the borders of Israel, and coordinating the movement of the Jewish population to Israel. In recent years, the organization has prioritized the limitation and eventually cessation of Iran’s nuclear program. As many parts of the Middle East remain unstable, and threats of nuclear proliferation escalate, delegates of this committee will be tasked with gathering intelligence and protecting the interests of Israel in a highly volatile world.
