Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,
I am delighted to invite you to the 26th annual session of the Ivy League Model
United Nations Conference (ILMUNC). Hosted by the International Affairs Association
of the University of Pennsylvania, ILMUNC is one of the largest and most renowned
United Nations simulations for high school students in the nation.
ILMUNC XXVI will take place from January 28 through January 31, 2010 in its established
home at the Sheraton Philadelphia Center City. Located within walking distance from
the world famous Philadelphia Museum of Art and historic sites such as Independence
Hall, the conference will be in the middle of the city’s cultural and historic headquarters.
Our staff and Secretariat have a long-standing commitment to innovation and this
year’s conference is no exception. ILMUNC XXVI will feature a host of elements that
will challenge and inspire delegates. Our conference is well suited for beginner
delegates as well as those who have been to numerous Model United Nations Conferences.
ILMUNC is excited to host a novice workshop for delegates who are new to the model
united nations scene, a resolution writing workshop for those who want to learn
the intricacies of writing these documents and an entire committee reserved exclusively
for novice delegates.
ILMUNC provides opportunities for high school students to visit and learn more about
the University of Pennsylvania, one of the Ivy League’s finest institutions. We
offer delegates the option to attend a college life panel where our staff members,
who are University of Pennsylvania students, will be able to answer any questions
relating to life as a college student. Delegates are also invited to take a free
shuttle from the Sheraton Hotel to the University of Pennsylvania campus in order
to attend an information session with a Penn Admissions Officer, take a campus tour
given by a Penn student, attend Penn classes, and enjoy our beautiful campus. In
addition, we offer a Philadelphia guide for those who would prefer to tour the city
and fun-filled nighttime activities such as the Delegate Fest and the Delegate Dance
to provide a balanced conference experience.
The Franklin Legacy allows ILMUNC participants to give back to the global community
by the commitment of both its delegates and staff. In the past the Franklin Legacy
program has raised money for organizations such as CarbonFund.org and Philabundance.
This year, the Franklin Legacy will focus on clean water access and we are planning
to support the Tap Project, whose funds go to the United Nations Children’s Fund.
ILMUNC XXVI is thrilled to present 22 diverse and exhilarating committees that range
from traditional United Nations committees to innovative and unconventional simulations.
Each committee’s chairs and staff are dedicated to continuing the tradition of exciting
and rigorous debate for which ILMUNC is well known. Over 200 students from the University
of Pennsylvania, each with a diverse background and dedication to international
relations, will aspire to make sure each delegate has an amazing committee experience.
Delegates will be challenged by our staff as well as other delegates within an environment
that is sure to augment their rhetorical skills as well as develop their understanding
of international issues.
All of the aforementioned features will no doubt make sure that every participant
has wonderful and unique weekend. If you have any questions or concerns, please
feel free to contact me either by email (sec-gen@ilmunc.com) or by phone (610-620-3004).
On behalf of ILMUNC XXVI, I look forward to working with you in the coming months
and welcoming you to the conference in January.
Best,
Maria Bohn
