An Invitation from the Secretary-General
Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,
It is my pleasure to invite you and your school for another year of passionate debate, negotiation, and consensus-building at the twenty-eighth session of the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference. Hosted by the University of Pennsylvania International Affairs Association, ILMUNC is one of the most renowned United Nations simulations in the world.
The conference will take place next year from January 26th to January 29th, and will again be held at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel. Located in the heart of the city of Brotherly Love, the conference is walking distance from some of Philadelphia’s most distinct historical and cultures landmarks, such as the Art Museum, the Liberty Bell, and Rittenhouse Square.
Our Secretariat and Staff of over 200 University of Pennsylvania students values our commitment to innovation and seeks to provide a forum for tomorrow’s leaders to develop their skills and interact with other high school students from around the world. We hope to challenge and inspire experienced delegates with our stimulating debate topics and unpredictable crises while also providing newer delegates with resources such as our novice committee and pre-conference workshop. Additionally, we will be continuing and improving upon our successful interactive online training program before conference.
We are proud to present 24 diverse committees, ranging from traditional Model UN committees to unconventional crisis simulations. These committees will certainly challenge and engage delegates as they seek to address some of the most relevant and interesting global issues facing the international community.
ILMUNC also provides the unique opportunity for high school students to take campus tours of the University of Pennsylvania – one of the nation’s finest institutions of higher learning. We offer delegates the option to take a free shuttle from the Sheraton to campus for an information session with Penn’s admissions department and a tour of our beautiful campus. We also invite delegates to attend our popular college life panel, where University of Pennsylvania students share their experiences applying to college and about college life.
We will also seek to continue our tradition of excellence by emphasizing innovation and creativity, particularly with regard to conference technology and the substantive aspect of the delegate experience. Additionally, we are renewing and expanding our commitment to environmental sustainability, and are actively developing partnerships with local organizations to achieve our long-term goal of becoming a truly “green” conference. Finally, we are excited to continue our Franklin Legacy Charity Program, which in the past has supported organizations like Invisible Children and CarbonFund.org.
If you have any questions or concerns, I would encourage you to email me (sec-gen@ilmunc.com) or call me (636-578-8395) at any time. I look forward to working with you in the coming months and I cannot wait to see you in January!
Best Regards,
Phill Venice
