Santi Pereira

Dear Delegates,

I am very excited to welcome you all to ILMUNC 34 and, more importantly, to the Pacific Alliance!

My name is Santiago Pereira, Santi for short, and I am originally from Montevideo, Uruguay, where I competed mostly in the Uruguayan/Argentinean circuit. I am studying Entrepreneurship, Finance, French and International Studies as part of the Huntsman Program at Penn and I am a committed member of the International Affairs Association (IAA). On campus, I am also a part of the Social Impact Consulting Group, MUSE (Wharton Marketing Club), Wharton Alliance and Wharton Latino.

Being from Latin America, I grew up hearing about these countries and the many issues that faced my continent. It will be great to hear your solutions to issues that face these nations today and see you bring your negotiation and debate skills to the table. I know that it may be the first time for some of you, so don’t hesitate to ask any questions! On that note, please feel free to reach out at any point if you want to learn more about Penn, classes, activities, or just about me!

Danielle (Danito) and I look forward to working together with you all on this very exciting and unique committee. Fun fact: she is my best friend here at Penn! Our movie and ice-cream nights are quite iconic… On our end, we hope to bring a level of professionalism to the committee, while at the same time keeping it as dynamic as possible.

We hope to make the background guide as thorough as possible, but we also look forward to seeing your research skills and for you to bring some unique elements to the table.

Anyway, enough about me! I want to hear from all of you. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions at spereira@wharton.upenn.edu and I will do my best to get back to you all as soon as possible. Also, self-promotion, follow me on Instagram, @spereira14!

See you in January!

Dano Major

Dear Delegates,

I am very pleased to welcome you to the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference! My name is Dano Major and I am the Moderator for the Pacific Alliance Committee. It has been such a pleasure preparing for conference over these past several months--Santi and I cannot wait to share it with you! I am so excited to tell you a little bit more about myself and this amazing conference.

I was born and raised in Manhattan Beach, California where I spent much of my time enjoying the year-round sunny weather by spending copious amounts of time at the beach with friends and family. Since coming to Penn, I have survived my first winter and am learning to navigate the public transportation system. I am studying in the College of Arts and Sciences, where I plan to major in either Physics or International Relations, with a Hispanic Studies and Language minor. Joining the University of Pennsylvania’s International Affairs Association as an overwhelmed and confused freshman was one of the best decisions I have made since coming to Penn; I anticipate that ILMUNC will be just as stimulating and enjoyable as the other Model United Nations conferences I have attended!

As a Secretariat, we have spent countless hours working to make sure each of the committees is run by engaged and capable staffers and that each topic is dynamic and engaging for all of you. With a wide range of topics, from historical conflicts to futuristic simulations to current problems, we hope that all delegates are able to partake in a lively debate about topics that excite them.

I have enjoyed pursuing my passion for Model UN on the collegiate level through INTERCOL, Penn’s competitive travel team, and serving as one of the Under-Secretaries General for Crisis committees at UPMUNC, Penn's college conference. Not only have I improved my speaking and research skills, I have also met some of my best friends. I hope that we are able to foster a similar environment of learning and connection for all of you at ILMUNC this year. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Santi, me or any other members on the Secretariat with questions or concerns. Get stoked for a dope conference!

All the best,

Dano Major
