UNITED NATIONS 2025 SPECIAL SUMMIT ON TECHNOLOGY

BACKGROUND GUIDE

TOPIC A: Artificial Inteligence

TOPIC B: Big Data

Rahul Kooverjee

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to ILMUNC XXXIV! My name is Rahul Kooverjee and I am the chair of the United Nations 2025 Special Summit on Technology. Our two topics – Artificial Intelligence and Big Data – are becoming more pervasive each day. By 2025, I suspect they will be at the forefront of global society. We, as a committee, will deal with these world changing technologies and their broad ramifications. I’m incredibly excited to hear what everyone has to say and I sincerely hope you this committee will be both engaging and informative for everyone.

Let me tell you a little about myself. I’m from South Africa and lived there for 11 years, before moving to England, Dubai and finally the USA. I began Model UN when I moved to the USA in my junior year of high school and have been involved ever since. I attended a few conferences during my tenure in high school and enjoyed them so much that I decided to join the IAA – Penn’s Model UN club – my freshman year. I’ve served as an ASG for ILMUNC in the past, and am also a Vice Chair of DISEC for UPMUNC – our college conference.

At Penn, I’m a junior pursuing a dual degree in Finance from the Wharton school and in Computer Science from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. I also serve as the head teaching assistant for CIS 110, our introductory programming course. I’m deeply interested in technology and look forward having an engaging discussing in committee. In my free time, I enjoy running, programming, and bringe watching Netflix (who doesn’t?).

Raj, our moderator, Meghana, our vice chair, and I cannot wait to meet you all at the conference. We’re incredibly excited for this committee and hope you are too. Please reach out to your USG Aiden Reiter if you have any questions or concerns.

Welcome to ILMUNC XXXIV and the United Nations 2025 Special Summit on Technology!

Sincerely,

Rahul Kooverjee

Raj Bhuva

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to ILMUNC XXXIV and welcome to the United Nations Special Summit on Technology! My name is Raj Bhuva and I will be serving as your moderator for this committee. The issues on the agenda are intriguing yet highly controversial at the same time: while they represent big leaps in technology, there are less-obvious political, economic and even security implications. This places our committee in a unique position and I couldn’t be more excited to work towards ensuring that committee produces fruitful debate and fun time for all of you!

A little about myself – I’m from Mumbai, India and have been involved with Model UN since freshman year of high school. I competed as a delegate as well as helped organize my high school conference – both of these have helped me sustain my passion for international affairs and debate.

At Penn, I am a sophomore in the Vagelos Integrated Program in Energy Research dual-degree program, majoring in chemical engineering and chemistry. I compete on the circuit with the Penn Model UN travelling team, Intercol and I’m also involved with YouthHack Philadelphia – an on-campus entrepreneurship club. I’ve also been keeping up my passion for theatre and acting at Penn by being a cast member on 2 productions in my freshman year. In my free time, I enjoy checking out new web-series, watching stand-up comedy and occasionally playing Quidditch.

Rahul, Meghana and I cannot wait to see you’ll at the conference and we look forward to a dynamic, interesting and fun committee!

Best Regards,

Raj Bhuva
