Anisha Reddy

Dear Delegates,

It is my absolute pleasure to welcome you to ILMUNC XXXIV’s UN Habitat committee! My name is Anisha Reddy, and it is my distinct pleasure to be your chair for the weekend. The secretariat and staff have been working tirelessly for the past year to deliver this conference for you, and I truly hope you have a fantastic weekend and make amazing memories.

Here’s a little bit about myself! I am a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in the Biological Basis of Behavior with a minor in Health Care Management. After Penn, I hope to pursue a career in medicine. I hail from the beautiful city of Pittsburgh across the state from Philadelphia. Since my sophomore year of high school, I have been involved with Model UN in some capacity. As part of the International Affairs Association at Penn, I have chaired the UNICEF committee last year at ILMUNC XXXIII and SOCHUM committee at ILMUNC China. Apart from my ongoing zealous for international relations, I am very passionate about healthcare and cancer research. Outside the IAA, I am a Peer Research Advisor for the Center for Undergraduate Research, Director of Symposium in the Penn Undergraduate Healthcare Coalition, and involved in Cardio-oncology research lab at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

This year the UN Habitat committee will be discussing some very interesting and highly engaging topics throughout the weekend. Andy and I are so thrilled know you guys have the potential to come up with some novel and engaging solutions. While the background guide serves as a great resource for these topics, I encourage you to use other resources and research to facilitate debate. In my opinion, the best delegates will be the ones who are well versed on both topics, vocal about their opinions and analyses, and cooperative and open-minded with other delegates. I look forward to hearing your innovative ideas on how to solve these longstanding issues. As always, ILMUNC will hold valuable debates and the highest level of competition.

If you have any questions about the topic or debate, please feel free to reach out to your fabulous USG, Fiona Bardhoshi. I look forward to meeting you all!

Cheers,

Anisha Reddy

Andy Shao

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to ILMUNC 34! My name is Andy Shao, and I’m very excited to be your moderator for the UN Habitat Committee. Your Secretariat and Staff have been working tirelessly for months to prepare for this conference, so look forward to an amazing weekend ahead!

Before I go into discussing the committee, I’ll tell you a bit more about myself. I’m a sophomore majoring in Economics at the Wharton School and concentrating in Finance and Healthcare Management. I’m originally from Westford, Massachusetts, a Boston suburb just 25 minutes away from the city. This was where my Model UN career began, and since then, Model UN has become important part of who I am today. Currently, I am serving as Chief of Operations for our international conference, ILMUNC China, and have also previously served as a crisis staffer for UPMUNC 50 and ILMUNC 33.

The UN Habitat committee is a simulation of the United Nations program working towards a better urban future. As members of this committee, you will tackle important environmental issues such as the Deforestation of the Amazon and Urbanization, while at the same time promoting the vision of creating a socially and environmentally sustainable future for human development. The decisions you make in this committee have the potential to dictate the delicate balance between humans and nature, as well as its social, economic, and infrastructural consequences in the future.

Please do not hesitate to email your USG, Fiona Bardhoshi, about any questions regarding the committee and preparation process. Get pumped for a challenging and exciting weekend, and see you soon at ILMUNC 34!

Best regards,

Andy Shao
