Dear Delegates,

Welcome to the 36th Ivy League Model United Nations Conference! My name is Josh Klapper, and I am incredibly excited to be serving as your Chair for the NCAA Division I committee. Not only is it an awesome theme for a room, but it is also one that is guaranteed to stimulate an engaging and active debate throughout the weekend.

Firstly, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a senior at Penn currently pursuing a major in economics and a minor in film. I am from New Canaan, Connecticut, but my mother’s side of the family is originally from Colombia. Throughout high school I actively participated on my Model UN team, and when I got to Penn I was immediately drawn to the International Affairs Association, which allows me to further pursue my interest in an administrative role. Apart from being your chair, I am the Director of Special Events for the Penn IAA, and in my sophomore year I actually served as an Assistant Secretary-General for ILMUNC. In my free time you can catch me hanging out with my brothers in Sigma Alpha Mu, playing jazz piano, or binge-watching “Arrested Development.” And if you’re a Yankees fan, it won’t be hard for us to get along!

This is the third conference I will have chaired for the International Affairs Association upon my graduation, but it is my first ILMUNC conference as a senior staffer. Being in a specialized committee is a genuine privilege, for both you and me alike, as each committee adheres to its own unique set of rules and procedures. I am thrilled to be leading and facilitating your debate along with my Moderator, Shek, and our wonderful other staffers. We look forward to seeing you all closely collaborate and reach agreeable solutions for the two pertinent issues on the table currently facing the NCAA.

Your chairs, as well as the ILMUNC 36 Secretariat, have been working hard to provide you with a fun, unique, and unforgettable experience. We hope that you enjoy the conference as much as we have enjoyed preparing it for you, and that you also take advantage of the other amazing events planned for you over the weekend!

Please do not hesitate to approach me or anyone else on your staffing panel during the conference with questions, or just to chat about life. I wish you the best of luck, and I can’t wait to meet you in January!

Best regards,

Josh Klapper
