Nicholas Strauch

Dear Delegates,

I'm excited to welcome you to ILMUNC XXXV! My name is Nicholas Strauch and I will be your Crisis Director for the United Nations Security Council committee.

I am a rising junior in the Huntsman Program in International Studies & Business, pursuing concentrations in Finance and Operations in Wharton and a triple major in International Studies, Psychology and German in the College of Arts and Sciences. I am very passionate about international affairs. My interest in Model United Nations first began when I was a freshman in high school and over the following four years, MUN took me all around the world. At Penn I am a deputy director for INTERCOL, Penn’s MUN travel team. Outside of MUN and other extracurricular activities, my hobbies include running, reading, and spending time with friends.

The issues that are going to be debated in this UNSC committee are extremely pressing and relevant to the world we live in today. I am very excited to meet every one of you. Shravan and I are going to do everything in our power to make sure that you have an amazing conference. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to one of us.

Sincerely,

Nicholas Strauch

Dear Delegates,

Along with my CD-Nicholas Strauch, I could not be more excited to chair this committee. Having done a variety of UNSCs on the collegiate circuit, I look forward to sharing my own experience as a chair here. With emphasis on substance and creativity, we hope to give you a unique experience at this unique conference. Nick is also an extremely close friend of mine, and I’m honored to run this committee with him.

Now, let me tell you a bit about myself. I’m currently a senior in the Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business studying at both Wharton and the College with a minor in Spanish. Born in Flushing, Queens, I still consider myself at least partially a New Yorker despite spending the last 17 years in East Brunswick, New Jersey, where I’ve been involved in Model UN and international relations related activities since my freshman year of high school. I’m also a huge sports fan (Yankees, Giants, Knicks, Rangers). This will be my third ILMUNC, having served as a CD of Syriza in 2016, and CD of Ad-Hoc in 2017.

This committee will challenge you beyond your boundaries, in an extremely unique perspective. We want the UNSC to have a truly global vision, and you’ll be dealing with a wide variety of issues here. We aim to make sure you have a fantastic Model UN experience at ILMUNC. Should you have any questions, feel free to email me at balajish@wharton.upenn.edu.

Sincerely,

Shravan Balaji
