Beau Staso

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to the United Nations Environment Programme at ILMUNC XXXV! My name is Beau Staso, and I am excited to serve as your Chair for this incredible weekend. I will be working with Ben May, your Moderator, alongside the ILMUNC secretariat to provide you with a stimulating and exciting committee experience.

To introduce myself, I am a dual degree sophomore in the College and Wharton, majoring in International Relations, Russian and Eastern European Studies, and Economics. I grew up in Hermosa Beach, California, right outside of Los Angeles. I discovered my love for Model United Nations during my freshman year of high school, and over the years, I’ve had an incredibly rewarding experience both competing in and planning conferences. I have served as an Under Secretary General of Crisis Committees for UPMUNC, our collegiate conference, and the year before that I worked as an Assistant Secretary General for Crisis Committees. I have staffed UNSC and Ad Hoc and am now excited to chair UNEP and see what kinds of solutions you will bring to committee throughout the weekend.

Outside of the International Affairs Association, I spend most of my time at Detachment 750 as an Air Force ROTC Cadet. I also work at the Wharton Behavioral Lab and am involved in the Wharton Public Policy Initiative as well as the Penn Undergraduate Law Journal. I teach piano and swim lessons throughout the week and spend an unhealthy amount of time watching Hawaii Five-0 and wishing I was back home on the beach.

We can’t wait to see what you all come up with in committee! If you have any questions, please feel to reach out to us or your wonderful USG, Laura Chu.

Sincerely,

Beau Staso

Ben May

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to ILMUNC 35 and the UNEP committee! My name is Ben May, and I will serve as your moderator.

A bit about myself, I was born in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia, lived on Long Island for most of my life, and currently live in Boston. As a sophomore at Penn, I plan on studying International Relations and Mathematical Economics. I have been doing Model UN since freshman year of high school. Outside of ILMUNC, I am a member of Penn’s competitive Model UN team (Intercol), am an elected representative to Penn’s Undergraduate Assembly, and am a tour guide at Penn. I love the outdoors, living to scuba dive, hike, and go camping. With family ties to the circus, I grew up learning to juggle, stilt walk, do aerial performances on silks, and much more. You will find that I am a passionate environmentalist, so I am thrilled to have the opportunity to chair this committee!

I cannot wait to see you all in January and see your solutions to the important environmental issues facing the world. If you have any questions at all, feel free to reach out to our Under-Secretary General Laura or to Beau and myself!

Best,

Ben May
