International Labor Organization
Approximately 40 Delegations - Double Delegate
Topic A: Mitigating the Effects of Automation and AI
Topic B: Protecting Migrant Workers
Welcome to the International Labour Organization for ILMUNC XLII! Over the next few days, you will address two critical issues facing the global workforce: mitigating the effects of automation and AI, and protecting migrant workers. As delegates, you will strategize on developing policies for a "just transition" to the digital economy, focusing on how to safeguard jobs, ensure decent work, and bridge the digital divide exacerbated by automation and AI. You will also confront the widespread exploitation and abuse faced by the world’s over 169 million migrant workers, working to strengthen international legal frameworks and reform recruitment practices to ensure equal labor rights and humane treatment. Through debate, delegates will seek solutions that balance technological progress with worker protection and uphold the dignity and rights of migrant workers globally
Dear Delegates,
I am excited to welcome you to the International Labor Organization (ILO) committee at ILMUNC XLII. As one of your chairs, I’m excited to be part of such a meaningful event with conversations that hopefully you’ll enjoy as much as I will. I can’t wait to hear the innovative pathways you develop toward building a more just and equitable world of work.
The ILO is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that promotes social and economic justice through international labor standards. Unlike other UN bodies, it operates on a unique three-body structure, giving equal voice to governments, employers, and workers. The ILO provides a global platform for dialogue and cooperation, and it ensures that progress in the international system is based on justice, equality, and a fair distribution of responsibility.
I am originally from New Jersey, where I went to The Lawrenceville School. Currently, I am a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in communications with a minor in consumer psychology. This will also be my second year staffing ILMUNC. Outside of ILMUNC, I serve as the Co-Editor-in-Chief of a publication (Faces of Black Penn), Co-Chair of Descendants of Afro-Americans at Penn, and External Director for SPEC-TRUM, a branch of student government.
Mikal, Opal, and I are all looking forward to working with you in the ILO committee. If you have any questions regarding the committee, feel free to reach out.

DEAR DELEGATES,
Welcome to the International Labor Organization (ILO) committee at ILMUNC XLII! My name is Mikal Banks, and I am honored to serve as one of your chairs. I am thrilled to help guide you through thoughtful debate that will challenge you to think critically about labor issues and produce creative solutions for a just and equitable future of work.
The ILO is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN). Unique among UN bodies, it operates on a tripartite structure, giving equal voice to governments, employers, and workers. Dedicated to promoting social and economic justice through international labor standards, the ILO provides a global platform for communication on the world of work, ensuring that progress in the international system is grounded in respect, equality, and shared responsibility.
A little bit about me, I am a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in Biology, with minors in Chemistry and Hispanic Studies on the pre-med track. I am from Richmond, Virginia, and this year marks my seventh year participating in Model UN and third year staffing ILMUNC. Outside of ILMUNC, I serve as co-chair of a cultural affinity group on campus and am actively involved in community service, particularly in healthcare outreach and art-based education programs for local youth. In my free time, I love line dancing, shopping/thrifting, and trying new foods.
Jourdan, Opal, and I are all looking forward to working with you in the ILO committee. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding the committee!
