Reporting on the Proceedings of ILMUNC XLII

Background Guide

Welcome to the Press Corps for ILMUNC XLII! As members of this dynamic committee, you will step into the crucial role of journalists, reporting on the most pressing debates and decisions throughout the entire conference. You will cover the complex crises discussed across all committees. From writing breaking news articles and sharp editorials to conducting on-the-spot interviews and hosting press conferences, you will capture the proceedings of each committee, offering insightful, unbiased analysis and updates. Through your work, you will shape the narrative of ILMUNC XLII, ensuring that the world stays informed on the critical discussions taking place.

Dear Delegates,

I am so happy to welcome you to the Press Corps Committee of ILMUNC! My name is Rafi, and as one of the moderators I can’t wait to assist you through this important and exciting experience.

Press Corps is especially interesting because it’s a lot different than the other committees. Instead of writing resolutions, directives, crisis notes, or doing speeches, you’ll be going around to report on the happening at the conference, and reporting on that in a journalistic-style. Press Corps lets you experience a different, yet very important, side of the UN.

A little bit about me, I am a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences studying CognitiveScience and Psychology, with a minor in French. I’m from here in Philly, and went to Friends Select School. I have never participated in Model UN before, but don’t worry! I have done my research and am very prepared to chair. Outside of this, I am in Penn’s satirical magazine, I’m in a tutoring club for children in the West Philadelphia community, and I also participate in Greek Life at Penn.

Declan, Andrew, and I are all looking forward to working with you in the Press Corps Committee. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding the committee.

DEAR DELEGATES,

Welcome to ILMUNC XLII! My name is Declan Brady, and I’m super excited to co-chair the Press Corps Committee at our upcoming conference.

Our committee underscores the vital role of journalism in holding leaders accountable and ensuring that information remains accessible to all. At a time when misinformation can spread rapidly and narratives often shape public perception as much as policy itself, the press serves as a safeguard for truth and transparency. By investigating, questioning, and reporting, journalists elevate voices that might otherwise go unheard and challenge decisions that demand scrutiny. I am excited to see how you, as members of this committee, will embody these responsibilities and demonstrate the power of a free and active press.

As for some background on me, I’m a senior from East Williston, New York (on Long Island), and I’m majoring in Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (PPE) at the College of Arts and Sciences. I competed at Model UN conferences throughout high school and have so many fond memories from those experiences. As a freshman in high school, I was in your shoes as an attendee of ILMUNC XXXV, and I hope to help make our committee as rewarding and enjoyable as mine was in 2019. Otherwise, I’m involved in the Penn Government & Politics Association, a political advocacy group, and the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project. I love to run, talk politics, and watch tennis.

Andrew, Rafael, and I are so excited to meet you all in Philadelphia for ILMUNC XLII. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email us. See you soon!
